CyRise set to expand accelerator program to NSW

in Cyber

CyRise, a partnership between Deakin University and global IT company NTT Ltd Australia, has been selected to operate the NSW Government’s $1 million Cyber Security Accelerator program.

Setting up a new location in Sydney’s Tech Central district, CyRise will offer three-day bootcamps, a flagship 14-week startup accelerator, and a new scale-up program for later stage fast-growth businesses.

The CyRise program exposes startups to international best practice, industry mentors and potential investors and customers. Established in 2017, 27 companies have graduated from the CyRise program. Among them are businesses that have since been named as cyber security startups to watch by Forbes Magazine.

Virginie Hoareau, Executive Director at Deakin Research and CyRise Board Member, says CyRise is a unique accelerator for cyber security startups.

“Deakin’s partnership with CyRise enables Deakin to apply its commitment to cyber security research excellence and generate real economic growth.”

The funding announcement will see CyRise expand its operations beyond Melbourne. Sydney is Australia’s leading city for cyber security, hosting over 120 businesses. The world-leading CyRise program will also be offered to more people in rural and regional NSW, cementing the state as a leading global destination for cyber innovation.

Minister for Enterprise, Investment and Trade Alister Henskens says CyRise is a “proven cyber security startup accelerator with a strong record of helping fast-track businesses to grow, diversify and attract investment.”

“The global cyber security industry is expanding rapidly and presents a significant opportunity for local businesses to upskill their staff,” Mr Henskens says.

“This program will help companies sharpen their products, fine-tune business models and boost their connections with international investors.”
