The end of the Cold War led to widespread expectations of the emergence of a new era of global peace and stability. If indeed this was ever actually the case, events over the last decade have shown these expectations to be patently false. The re-emergence of overt great power competition – to an extent unprecedented since the end of World War II – has left no nation on Earth unaffected. Further, this great power rivalry has entailed competition and conflict in the global information environment – comprised by the electromagnetic spectrum, cyberspace, and the human cognitive domain – that is unparalleled in human history.
To compete and prevail in the emerging global security environment it is therefore critical that we understand the information environment, and the opportunities and vulnerabilities that it presents. The Association of Old Crows (AOC) is the global professional organisation for individuals who have a common interest in the tools of trade of the information environment: electronic warfare; cyber operations; information operations/information warfare; and other information-related capabilities. In Australia the AOC is represented by it’s Australian Chapter; being the largest and most active AOC Chapter in the Indo-Pacific region.
In October 2022, the Australian Chapter will be running our biennial Convention in Adelaide, being our first Convention since the onset of the global COVID pandemic. The theme for the 2022 Convention is: Winning the Information War in the Indo-Pacific. Presentations at the Convention will investigate the challenges and potential solutions (technical, organisational, doctrinal, policy) posed by the emerging security and technological landscape in the Indo-Pacific region. The Convention will feature eminent speakers from Australia and overseas, drawn from the military, government, industry, and academia. The Convention is an unrivalled opportunity to engage with like-minded professional to enhance your awareness of how to compete and prevail in a complex, contested information environment.
