The $500 million project for the Future Air Mission Training System (Air 5428 Phase 3) has reached a new milestone and progressed to the next phase of the procurement process.
Boeing Defence Australia, CAE Australia, Lockheed Martin Australia and Raytheon Australia have been selected through the ‘invitation to register’ process and will be provided with a request for tender in early 2023.
Wing Commander Mark Wilkins said these companies were shortlisted to replace the ground training, airborne training and learning environments with a modern integrated learning environment.
“The Future Air Mission Training System forms part of Defence’s aircrew training program,” Wing Commander Wilkins said.
“It will be transformative, evolvable, flexible and enduring with the most appropriate and up-to-date training methods and tools to generate future officer aviation (mission) and selected airmen aviation candidates to meet Australian Defence Force needs until at least 2040.”
Through the project, Air Force is aiming to take advantage of state-of-the-art technology to keep pace with rapid developments in the training environment.
The project will aim to maximise Australia’s defence industry involvement in the acquisition, operation and sustainment of this defence capability.
The next phase of the project will focus on a competitive evaluation of more comprehensive tendered solutions, prior to progressing the project for government consideration in 2024.
