Boeing has officially welcomed Saab to the MQ-28 Ghost Bat Australian team to contribute Saab Australia’s TactiCall Communication Solution.

Saab Australia’s TactiCall includes user terminals, network, and radio infrastructure, along with avionics equipment such as electromechanical actuators and controllers for the primary flight control system from Saab in Sweden.

“The Ghost Bat program is a groundbreaking initiative for Australia’s defence sector, highlighting the power of collaboration between global defence organisations, local businesses, and the Defence Force,” said Andy Keough CSC, managing director of Saab Australia.

“We are thrilled to join the Boeing-led MQ-28 team, bringing our TactiCall Communications Solution, which integrates multiple communication technologies into a single intuitive interface, enabling secure information sharing across various classification levels. Saab is eager to continue working with Boeing and deliver cutting-edge solutions to support the Australian Defence Force.”

Saab now joins over 200 companies involved in the MQ-28 program, co-developed by Boeing Australia and the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF).

“In the past year, we have increased the number of Australian companies engaged in platform development from 55 to 74, reflecting our commitment to fostering local industry collaboration,” said Glen Ferguson, Boeing MQ-28 global program director.

“By incorporating Saab’s proven electromechanical actuation equipment, we’re accelerating our efforts to meet operational requirements while evolving a truly global capability.”

Ferguson also emphasised the maturity of the supply chain as a testament to progress, highlighting Boeing’s dedication to creating growth opportunities for Australian companies and advancing towards an operationally capable platform, with plans to explore markets beyond Australia.
