Transitioning out of the Air Force, whether it’s happening now or within the next twelve months can be daunting. Suddenly you may find yourself responsible for arrangements and decisions that Defence previously handled for you, including your health cover.
At Navy Health, our mission is simple; to look after those who have served their country. As a not-for-profit Defence-aligned health fund since 1955, we’ve supported generations of Air Force veterans and transitioning members with cover that puts their needs first.
Here for you through every stage of transition
Whether your months away from discharge or already settling into civilian life, Navy Health is committed to making health cover simple and accessible. As a not-for-profit, every decision we make is guided by what benefits you, not shareholders.
You’ll experience:
- Clear, easy-to-understand cover options.
- Fast digital claiming, with Extras claims processed on average* in just 2 days!
- We answer your calls in seconds, not hours* so you can spend less time on hold and more time doing what you love.
- Support from our dedicated Australian-based team who understands the challenges Defence veterans can face.
- No waiting periods if you join Navy Health within 90 days of discharging and backdate the policy to start on your discharge date.
Health cover that helps you land smoothly
Leaving service doesn’t mean leaving behind the support you’re used to. Navy Health makes the next steps simple:
- You can join or be added to an existing family policy with one phone call.
- Many transitioning members are eligible for our 10% DVA discount**. That’s just over 5 weeks free every year!
- We take care of the process for you. We’ll cancel your previous cover (if you have it), transfer your cover to Navy Health, and waive waiting periods for services already covered!
- If you join on family cover, we’ll also organise the transfer for your partner and dependents.
When transitioning we aim to ensure you have practical, everyday support while you build your life outside of service. Because at Navy Health, we’re not just another health fund — we’re part of your support network.
Why Extras cover still matters, even with a DVA card
For veterans with a DVA Gold or White Card, Navy Health Extras cover can provide additional, everyday value that complements your DVA entitlements.
For example, DVA generally provides one pair of prescription glasses every two years, or every year if you are over 65. With Navy Health Extras, you can access benefits for up to two additional pairs every year, depending on your level of cover.
For many transitioning members and veterans, that additional optical support alone makes Extras worthwhile. And that’s alongside other benefits for services like physio, chiro, podiatry, dental and more, where you can choose your preferred provider. Right now, if you join with combined cover before 31 March, in addition to our 10% DVA discount**, you may be eligible to receive:
- 6 weeks free^
- 2 & 6 month waiting periods waived on Extras^
That’s a total of 11 weeks free in your first year with Navy Health!
Because good health doesn’t just support your mission — it supports your life beyond it.
