About the new centre
Due to be commissioned in 2024, the new high security men’s correctional centre will focus on health and rehabilitation, with safety at its core.
Taking on the latest thinking and best practice in corrective services, the centre will have targeted programs such as trade skills and various services including drug and alcohol rehabilitation. These will be delivered on site in modern, fit-for-purpose spaces.
The Lockyer Valley Correctional Centre is geographically the biggest correctional centre in Queensland and will have ongoing job opportunities now and into the future.
Job opportunities
There are more than 800 roles in the new Centre. We are looking for custodial correctional officers which includes trade instructors, as well as psychologists, allied healthcare workers, administration officers, case managers, education officers and more.
For our custodial correctional officers, no formal qualifications or prior correctional experience is required. You just need to be a good communicator and have a desire to make a difference in other people’s lives.

Queensland Corrective Services officers come from all walks of life and are part of a broader multidisciplinary team that helps people in custody break the cycle of offending.

Salaries for custodial correctional officers range from $81,645 to $117,152 (inclusive of allowances, leave loading and superannuation), and the remuneration for other roles, such as administration and allied healthcare workers, is competitive and comparative to similar roles across the Queensland public sector.
To ensure a healthy work-life balance, flexible working arrangements, including a condensed working week are available for some roles. Other working arrangements include casual and part time, with some roles being able to work from home.
Relocation funding and support is also available for eligible applicants to work at the Lockyer Valley Correctional Centre.
Location
The Lockyer Valley Correctional Centre is under construction near the town of Gatton, about 90 kilometres west of Brisbane.
The centre’s location in the picturesque Lockyer Valley, known as the ‘salad bowl’ of Australia, offers country living with city convenience, making it an attractive place to live and work.
It takes about 30 minutes to drive to the new centre from Toowoomba, 45 minutes from Ipswich, and just over an hour from Brisbane city.
